This summer, we did not get to spend as much time in Grand Haven as we would have liked. Trips to Zeeland and Williamsburg, Virginia occupied much of our vacation time in July. We did make it for the Memorial Day weekend where the kids decorated their bikes and participated in the bike parade and were hot on the trial to wake up Yogi after hibernating all winter. The weekend was cold and rainy but the kids still managed to spend some time in the pool. We bundled up and did get to have one campfire. The John Deere Boys. The long Labor Day weekend was very relaxing. No rain and a lot of time spent in the hammock and around the fire pit. The kids got another hayride and helped put Yogi to bed for the winter. We also took our last several dips in the pool before it closed for the year. Mom and the kids rented the four-person pedal car and toured the park. Though two people can pedal this vehicle, mom ended up doing all the work with the three kids riding. Lou Ann and Russ and Steve and Susan stopped by Sunday afternoon for a hamburger dinner and visiting. The Labor Day weekend is the last hurrah for most of the campers. Even the picnic basket is bigger than Matthew. And here is the weather in Grand Haven: | |
Site 71. For the second year in a row, we decorated our site for the Halloween in August celebration. Last year we took third place in the best decorated site contest, this year we didn't place. Dani dressed as an Indian and the boys donned their overalls and John Deere hats and rode on Jake's John Deere pedal tractor. They were known as the "John Deere Boys" by the time they returned from trick-or-treating. Jolene took the kids around collecting a variety of candy while Jim stayed at the trailer to hand out treats to the 400+ kids who circulated through the park. Mom did all the pedaling. We were back at the park the weekend of September 15th and 16th to close up the trailer and winterize for the season. It always seems that the weather is cold on the weekend that we get soaked washing down the trailer and the awnings. We got everything finished up on Saturday and left that evening for home. Most of the other "seasonals" were closing up and preparing to head to their winter homes. Many of them are retired and spend time in Texas or Florida during the Winter. It is kind of sad when we have to leave for the winter, but it gives something to look forward to when Spring arrives. We'll be back for another season beginning in April. Next year should not be quite so busy. Click the bar below for a map or driving directions to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Grand Haven. |
